5 Best Detox Tea Recipes

Christmas feast is over, leftover turkey sandwiches are long gone and last chocolates have been polished off. A few days of food indulgence might have left some of us feeling heavier and bloated (definitely me). With New Year just round the corner I have gathered 5 best detox tea recipes that will help you to feel better and lighter, boost your energy levels, balance hormones, clear the skin, aid digestion and stimulate immunity. 

5 best detox tea recipes

1. Morning Cleanse

Begin each day with this fresh tea for a kick-start to your digestion and lymphatic systems. This tea will also help to remove waste from your body.

Preparation for 1 Mug 

  • 1 sprig of parsley
  • 2 fresh lemon slices
  • 1cm piece of fresh ginger (peeled and chopped) 
  • 1/2 tsp fresh or dried dandelion leaf 

Method  

Place all ingredients directly into the mug or infuser and fill in with hot water (best to use 90-95 degrees Celsius water rather than boiling water temperature for all the recipes). Infuse for 5 minutes and the tea is ready!

2. Cleansing Seeds Tea

This tea will balance blood sugar and provide full body cleanse. 

Preparation for 1 Mug 

  • 1 1/2 tsp fennel seeds 
  • 1/2 tsp celery seeds 
  • 1/2 tsp aniseed 
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon 
  • 1/4 tsp fenugreek seeds 
  • 1 cm piece of fresh ginger (peeled and chopped)
  • slice of fresh lemon and a spoon of honey if desired 

Method 

Put all ingredients except lemon and honey into a teapot, pour 300 ml of slightly below the boiling point water, leave to infuse for 10 mins. Strain into the mug, add lemon and honey, enjoy!

3. Lymph-buster Tea 

The lymphatic system is a crucial part of the immune system. When it is overloaded one can become feeling sluggish and bloated. This tea will help to boost the system. 

Preparation for 2 Mugs

  • 2 tsp dried dandelion leaf
  • 1 tsp dried cleavers 
  • 2 tsp dried calendula 
  • 1 tsp dried horsetail 
  • 3 dried red clover flowers 
  • 1 tsp of honey if desired 

Method 

Put all ingredients except honey into a teapot, pour 400 ml of slightly below the boiling point water, leave to infuse for 10 mins. Strain into the mugs, add honey and enjoy!

4. Liver Cleansing Digestive Tea 

Recover after indulging with this tea recipe. Milk thistle will support your liver, nettle leaves will cleanse your system, cinnamon will balance blood sugar levels, marshmallow root will soothe digestion. Siberian ginseng will restore the energy and lemon balm will lift the spirits. 

Preparation for 1 Mug organic herbal detox tea

  • 2 tsp milk thistle seeds
  • 1 tsp dried chopped marshmallow root 
  • 1 tsp dried nettle leaf
  • 2 tsp lemon balm (melissa)
  • 1/2 tsp Siberian ginseng 
  • 1/4 ground cinnamon 
  • 1 tsp honey if desired 

Method 

Crush the milk thistle seeds (in blender or pestle and mortar). Put all herbs, except lemon balm, in a small pan, add 300 ml of water. After brought to the boil, reduce the heat and simmer for 5 mins. Remove from the heat, add lemon balm and leave to infuse for further 5 mins. Strain to the cup or mug, add honey and enjoy!

5. Gut Soothing Tea 

Calendula contains high amounts of flavonoinds that help to relax muscles and increase blood flow. Lemon verbena can increase white blood cells, boosting the immune system. 

Preparation for 1 Mug

  • 2 tbsp of lemon verbena
  • 1 tsp of calendula petals 
  • 1 tsp honey if desired 
  • slice of lemon to garnish 

Method

Add lemon verbena and calendula to a teapot or mug, cover with below the boiling point water, infuse for 10 mins. Strain to the mug, add lemon or honey and enjoy!
